My name is Samantha Eaton and I’m currently enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to be a Holistic Health Coach.

All through my teenage years, if it didn’t say: “Fat Free, Sugar Free, Low Calorie” on the label, I would not go near it. I wanted to look like the models in the magazines and actresses in the movies, and there was no way the food I ate was going to sabotage me!

Then, in 2008, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and his physical and emotional symptoms were getting worse. Being very close to my father all my life, hearing this news was beyond devastating. I’m not one to hear something like that and just accept it. Together with my mother, we made it our mission to figure out a way to improve my dad’s health and slow the progression of his degenerative disease.

We researched everything we could about Parkinson’s Disease, giving us a deep holistic understanding of health, and how all of the food I was eating had very little “food” in it! It was filled with chemicals and artificial ingredients, which do TONS of damage to our bodies.

We also learned that one of the leading causes of Parkinson’s Disease was pesticide and chemical exposure. With over 85% of food in the US being genetically modified and regularly sprayed with pesticides, this was a big red flag.

From there, we knew what we needed to do to try and help him. We changed the foods we all ate to mostly organic foods, incorporated many more fruits and vegetables, switched to chemical-free cleaning products, increased exercise, decreased stress where possible, etc.

I’m very happy to share that the lifestyle changes we made have helped my dad, and in seeing him doing better and being happier, I became a true believer in a chemical-free lifestyle.

By graduation in 2014, my education will have equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. I will work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.

In the meantime, I’m learning all I can to help people integrate healthier practices and make healthier choices in their daily routines to live and feel better.
